Open to general public 6/9/25. Members only 2/9/25 - 5/9/25.Pub was bought by developers to change to a large HMO and closed on 30/6/23. A group was formed to save it called 'Save The New Clarence', later becoming the Hull Community Pub Society Ltd, a Community Benefit Society. It first got the pub listed as an ACV, then fought off the 1st planning application. With advice from Paul Ainsworth at CAMRA and Dave Hollings of CMS, plus additional funding from the Co-op for surveys from Plunkett UK and support from local organisations, it got the ACV review dismissed and the appeal to the Tribunal dismissed also, fought off 2 more planning applications and 2 appeals. It obtained funding from the government (just in time before it was closed) and raised almost £250,000 in community shares. This is Hull's first community owned and run pub and we are all very excited about reaching this point.
