An ex-coaching house named Nags Head in 1835 which was renamed Bowmans on being taken over by John Bowman who had been brought up next door at the Wellington when his father William was licensee. The hotel was extended at the rear in 1864 when Howden hosted the Yorkshire Show. Large open plan bar but with 3 distinct rooms/areas off the main drinking area.
