CAMRA PRESS RELEASE

VACCINE PASSPORT

CAMRA says dropping vaccine passports for pubs ‘right call for consumers and licensees alike’
Responding to the news that the Government has shelved plans to bring in ‘vaccine passports’ for pubs and hospitality businesses in England, Nik Antona, CAMRA Chairman said: “This was the right call to make – a vaccine passport scheme would have been another nightmare set of rules for licensees to enforce and potentially exclusionary to some consumers. “The social and wellbeing benefits of pub going should be available to everyone, and the Government still has not provided any evidence that hospitality businesses have been a major vector for virus transmissions – so we saw no reason why the sector should be singled out for more unfair treatment.
“Licensees will be breathing a sigh of relief today – especially as many are still getting to grips with new rules on registering all customers in groups for Test and Trace, and planning for indoor reopening in May.
“The Government must now stick to its reopening roadmap, and double down on efforts to encourage to people socialise safely in pubs and social clubs by introducing a new, lower, rate of duty for draught beer, and extending the business rates holiday.”

When can Pubs and Clubs re-open

England and Scotland have set out dates for when pubs and restaurants may be able to reopen again, as the vaccine roll-out protects an increasing share of the population.

Hospitality venues across most of the UK are currently closed as part of the national lockdown, although they can offer takeaway food and drink within certain restrictions.

When will pubs and restaurants re-open in England?

In England the earliest dates for hospitality reopening are:

12 April- Restaurants and pub gardens will be allowed to serve customers sitting outdoors - including alcohol; customers can meet in a group of up to six people from different households; a maximum of two households can meet to form a group of any size.
17 May - Hospitality venues can seat customers indoors; parties can be made up of a maximum of six people or two households of any size; groups seated outside must be smaller than 30 people.
21 June - All restrictions will be lifted, and nightclubs will be allowed to re-open

How to support our breweries and pubs during COVID-19 crisis

1. Buy beer direct from the brewery – a number of local breweries are delivering to York and surrounds, or offering opening times where you can collect your order. Buying from the brewery puts the money direct into their tills and will help them keep the lights on.

2. Buy beer and food from the pub – a few pubs are keeping their kitchens open and delivering to their local area. If your local pubs is one of them then please support them and help them survive this unprecedented situation

We’ve listed all the local breweries and pubs below. If you know any we’ve missed then please let us know on ku.gro.armac.lluh@ofni so we can update this page.
