Covid 19 - CAMRA Response - Local beer deliveries

CAMRA responds to the Government’s 10pm curfew on pubs and restaurants

In response to the Government announcement that pubs and restaurants will be forced to close at 10pm from Thursday onwards, CAMRA National Chairman Nik Antona commented: “As things stand this morning, hospitality is the only sector to be subject to new restrictions. This will be devastating news for thousands of publicans across England who have been willing to do whatever is necessary to provide a safe, Covid-secure place for people to enjoy the wellbeing benefits of having a pint with friends and family. “The Government should not impose arbitrary restrictions that target one sector without explanation or evidence, which, so far, we have not seen. We are now calling for a new financial support package to be introduced for pubs immediately, which includes the extension of the furlough scheme and the cancellation of business rates for another year, or they risk countless pub closures and job losses.”

What the new laws mean

From Thursday 24 September all pubs, bars, restaurants and other hospitality venues in England must close by 22:00(therefore last orders maybe called at 9.30). The sector will be restricted by law to table service only. Currently, people in England can meet in groups of no more than six and they shouldn't mingle with other groups in pubs or restaurants. Table bookings of more than six are not allowed. Hospitality businesses are legally required to take customers' contact details so they can be traced if a potential outbreak is linked to the venue. Previously, they were advised to do so, but didn't have to officially. Businesses can be fined if they take reservations of more than six, do not enforce social distancing or do not take customers' contact details.

How to support our breweries and pubs during COVID-19 crisis

1. Buy beer direct from the brewery – a number of local breweries are delivering to York and surrounds, or offering opening times where you can collect your order. Buying from the brewery puts the money direct into their tills and will help them keep the lights on.

2. Buy beer and food from the pub – a few pubs are keeping their kitchens open and delivering to their local area. If your local pubs is one of them then please support them and help them survive this unprecedented situation

We’ve listed all the local breweries and pubs below. If you know any we’ve missed then please let us know on ku.gro.armac.lluh@ofni so we can update this page.
